We are looking for a reliable, motivated, and hardworking Land Survey Assistant to join our growing field team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build a long-term career in the surveying industry. You will work directly with an experienced Survey Party Chief and gain hands-on experience on a variety of construction, infrastructure, development, and legal surveying projects.
Key Responsibilities
As a Land Survey Assistant, you will assist the Survey Party Chief with:
- Construction layout and as-built surveys
- Legal and boundary surveys
- Topographic and existing-condition surveys
- Control surveys and benchmark establishment
- Setting and locating survey monuments, stakes, nails, and other survey markers
- Setting up and operating basic survey equipment under supervision
- Assisting with total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, digital levels, prisms, and survey rods
- Holding prism poles and assisting with field measurements
- Locating and measuring existing site features
- Maintaining accurate field notes and survey records
- Loading, unloading, organizing, and maintaining survey equipment
- Keeping survey vehicles, equipment, and work areas clean and organized
- Following project-specific instructions and surveying procedures
- Following all company and project health and safety requirements
- Assisting with field surveying activities as required by the Party Chief
Qualifications & Skills
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic mathematical and measurement skills
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
- Comfortable working outdoors and in changing weather conditions
- Physically capable of performing field duties and carrying survey equipment
- Ability to travel reliably to different project sites
Assets
- Diploma or education in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field
- Previous land surveying, construction, or field experience
- Familiarity with Leica Total Stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, or digital levels
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and plans
- Experience using computers, tablets, or mobile applications
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence with a clean driving record
Previous surveying experience is an asset but is not required. Training will be provided to the right candidate.
Physical & Field Work Requirements
This position involves working in a variety of outdoor and construction environments. Candidates must be comfortable with:
- Working outdoors throughout the year and in varying weather conditions
- Walking and working on uneven terrain
- Working around active construction sites, roadways, and infrastructure projects
- Carrying survey equipment, stakes, rods, and other field materials
- Performing physically demanding field activities
- Working early mornings when required
- Occasional evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime depending on project requirements
- Travelling to project sites throughout the GTA and other areas of Ontario
